Accessorize!

Every little girl with a new Pink Retro Kitchen deserves a darling little apron to accessorize with! Someone sent me an apron in the mail for a “pay-it-forward” giveaway, that sadly I have not yet “paid-it-forward” (but fully intend to) but, my mom and I repeated the pattern only on a much smaller scale for little Lulu. I had some Fat Quarters from Material Possesions, which by the way might just be the most adorable little treasure box I have ever experienced in fabric! … the fatties that I had were so cute and I have been waiting for just the right project to use them with!

So.. the apron was the perfect project!

Isn’t it Lovely! … and so is she!

Backseat Organizer

My mom came to visit and brought a cute “free” pattern from JoAnn’s… I had some scrap material and some coordinating ribbon and whipped this little beautie out in about 20 minutes! I like it, and so does Lucy!

Barrette tutorial

What you will need

material- 2 colors, one for the button and one for the body

100% cotton batting- I use warm and natural or white and natural

buttons- either you can use regular ones or ones that you cover yourself… both turn out really cute

needle and thread

barrette.

First,

start out by cutting your material 1in. by 2.5 in. You will need two pieces of batting and one piece of material for the body.

Next,

you should have your 3 pieces of material- 2 pieces of batting and one piece of material. Take your barrette and line it up on the body of the underside of one piece of batting. Make a small (really small) clip with your scissors so that when the barrette is opened the small skinny piece fits into the slit. At this point I actually clip the barrette shut to the bottom piece of batting and lay the 2nd piece of batting on top of the barrette (so the barrette is “hiding”now) then the material on top of the second piece of batting. Basically the barrette is sandwiched in between the 2 pieces of batting.

Then,

I thread my needle and start sewing around the edges. I sew pretty loosely so it looks kind of vintage-ish.

You can do it however you’d like!

Voila!- your hair clip is done!

NOW… accessorize! I make my fabric covered button and hot glue it onto the barrette!

*** note: if you are going to use a regular button, you need to sew it onto the material first.***

Ooohhh these are super adorable! I think I’ll put them on my list of “to-do’s”

Stay tuned for that promised tutorial on the hair clips! I promise it is coming!

Also… I am getting a new craft room!… it’s actually about 80 years old, but it will be transformed soon! So happy.

Toddler Bed

This weekend we- Ben and I – took on the DIY toddler bed from design mom!

It turned out so incredible! We love it and we think that Lucy does as well! We did however make a few adjustments to suit our liking! … We heightened the bed and our mattress was a few inches longer than the dimensions listed on the website! All in all we are so excited!
I would put this DIY in the easy category… given you know how to use a drill and staple gun!

Hair Clips

I fell in love with these hair clips about a year ago and bought them from Kelly McCaleb.

Here is one of my re-creations!

There are endless possiblities for these little lovlies! I used a standard sliver snap barette, 100% white cotton batting, cute material, a vintage button and some thread!

Applique-ing

While in Seattle in August I saw an episode of Martha Stewart which was all about Pets. BellaBludesigns did a segment about applique-ing onesies.

SO CUTE!

I just knew I had to have the wiener dog onesie!

So… I did a little searching… and my friend Tonya and I found the silhouette and we did it!

I put a zig-zag stitch around the entire silhouette to avoid any uplifting of the material, plus it adds a little extra touch that looks cute!

It turned out so adorable!

I’ve got the bug now… let’s see what else I can applique!

last Saturday night….

I found this adorable dress on Etsy that I HAD to re-create. Thank you for the lovely inspiration. It was a big hit! I am not a professional photog and don’t have any intentions of becoming one, so as you can tell… this is not posed, but nonetheless Lucy wore this little beauty well!

No pattern by the way… not to shabby huh?
